A New Documentary about their 35-Year Crusade

Buenos Aires City Councilman Juan Cabandié was well into his 20s when he learned that his entire life had been a lie, that the people who raised him were not his real parents, and his real parents were among the estimated 30,000 people who disappeared during Argentina’s Dirty War, a seven-year spate of state-sponsored violence that took place in the late 70s and early 80s. Cabandié’s story and that of many other “appropriated” children form the central theme of Las Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo and the Search for Identity, a UNC documentary about the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo, the grandchildren they lost, and the ones they have found.
